People were talking trash again Monday in Horry County. The issue of flow control was a big part of the Conway council meeting.

One day after council made an initial decision about waste people continue to talk trash in Horry County. Tuesday, council passed the first reading of an ordinance giving the county the right to tell independent hauling companies where they can dump trash generated in Horry County.

Council members passed the first reading of Ordinance 02-09 that reads “regulating the county-wide collection and disposal of solid waste generated within Horry County and for the prohibition of the disposal of solid waste materials in any manner except as set for herein and providing penalties for violation thereof.”

Williamsburg County Council tabled third and final reading on a proposed landfill Thursday night in Kingstree after a public hearing in which residents pleaded with council not to enter into an agreement to develop the landfill.

More than 200 people attended a hearing on a proposed landfill agreement between MRR Williamsburg LLC and Williamsburg County Council on Tuesday night in Kingstree.

A proposed landfill continues to bring people in Marlboro County together. Wednesday night that opposition crossed the state line to Hamlet, NC, where the proposed landfill’s entrance would be located.

Through contract negotiations, Marion County officials are attempting to erase a $134,000 debt it has with contractors who operate the Red Bluff C & D landfill site.

Marlboro County residents made their voices heard Tuesday with a resounding “no” to the proposed Wallace landfill. The non-binding referendum asked voters to give their opinions on whether they wanted the proposed landfill to come to their county.
