Pennington elected Hartsville mayor; Lamar mayoral race set for runoff
Businessman Mel Pennington won an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s race for mayor of Hartsville with 65.5 percent of the vote to rival Pam Sansbury’s 34.5 percent. In Lamar, mayoral candidates Randy Reynolds and Jackie L. Thomas will face each other in a runoff Nov. 17.

Lamar wins playoff tune up 52-0 versus rival Timmonsville
It’s a rivalry game that through the years has produced some of the most competitive and intense games one will ever see on the football field, but it was all Lamar (9-1) against Timmonsville Friday, as Silver Foxes quarterback Trevor Norris threw five touchdown passes in the first half before his team coasted to a 52-0 victory. Lamar had won a contest earlier in the season 26-6.

Lamar squeaks by Darlington again, 26-24
It felt like a playoff game, and played like a playoff game, but mostly felt like two county rivals going at it with everything they had for four quarters. That’s exactly what happened in Lamar Friday night, as the Silver Foxes slipped past Darlington 26-24 in dramatic fashion.

Lamar’s football team improves record to 3-0
LAMAR - Jerrod Dargan and Jaquavius Peebles each had touchdown runs, and Matthew Mitchell caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Norris to help Lamar beat Timmonsville 26-6 on Friday. Anthony McAllister also had a 53-yard punt return to aid the Silver Foxes’ cause. The Whirlwinds’ only score was a 3-yard run by Brandon Hampton in the fourth quarter.

Two men, including one from Lamar, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to utter and possess counterfeit commercial checks, U.S. Attorney Walter Wilkins said in a press release.
