A pair of Pee Dee NFL players are battling injuries. Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who played at Wilson, is dealing with a high ankle sprain while Lamar’s Michael Hamlin, a safety for the Cowboys, broke his wrist and is expected to miss more than a month.

By the time their respective seasons are over, Timmonsville and Lamar will know each other very well. In the second of four meetings between rivals separated by just six miles, Timmonsville turned relentless defense into transition offense as the Whirlwinds downed the Silver Foxes, 74-61.

Late fumble return gives Lamar win over Darlington

The Darlington Falcons had the best of all possible scenarios late in the fourth quarter of their game against Lamar. The Falcons had the lead, the ball deep in Lamar territory and the Silver Foxes were out of timeouts. All that changed in one play.

The Darlington Falcons christened their new home with a 14-7 win over McBee last week, their first victory of the season. Now they’re hoping to carry some of that momentum to a Friday night showdown against county rival Lamar in the Morning News Game of the Week.
