Hartsville, Darlington tops in West Florence track meet
FLORENCE - West Florence High School hosted the first track meet of the season Tuesday, March 9. Hartsville, Lamar, South Florence and Darlington high schools participated in ten events while a large crowd cheered from the stands and excited teammates cheered from the sidelines of the track.

Lamar, Mayo High schools named to U.S. News ranking
For three years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked America’s Best High Schools, and for all three years Mayo High School for Math, Science & Technology has earned a silver award. This year, Darlington County School District also had a second school honored with a bronze award: Lamar High School. Only 26 schools in South Carolina made the list.

Falcons take down Silver Foxes on Friday
The Darlington Falcons were too much for the Lamar Silver Foxes Friday night at Darlington as both the boys and the girls fell in the contests.

Taneyhill, Boyd bring plenty of experience
From 2002-2004, J.R. Boyd and the Lamar Silver Foxes won three straight Class A state football championships. Now they’re the only team that can keep Steve Taneyhill and the Chesterfield Rams from doing the same.

Lamar’s defense key to 40-6 win over Estill
Estill put up more of a fight than the final score would indicate, but the Lamar Silver Foxes (10-1) still rolled through the first round of the playoffs at home Friday night, winning 40-6 to set up a second round home contest versus Allendale-Fairfax. Allendale-Fairfax overwhelmed Baptist Hill (50-6) and will now face Lamar at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night in Lamar.

Timmons, Hamlin battling injuries
A pair of Pee Dee NFL players are battling injuries. Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who played at Wilson, is dealing with a high ankle sprain while Lamar’s Michael Hamlin, a safety for the Cowboys, broke his wrist and is expected to miss more than a month.

Timmonsville boys, girls sweep Lamar
By the time their respective seasons are over, Timmonsville and Lamar will know each other very well. In the second of four meetings between rivals separated by just six miles, Timmonsville turned relentless defense into transition offense as the Whirlwinds downed the Silver Foxes, 74-61.
