Former Johnsonville standout Jim Maxwell was among the Cincinnati Bengals’ cuts announced Saturday.

Work has begun on the site for the new Johnsonville Public Library to be located on the east side of Highway 41-51 across from the High School Building.

JHS held its 43rd annual Athletic Banquet on Thursday, May 28th.  Top honors went to Brock Cooper – Top Male Athlete; and Latima Hannah – Top Female Athlete.

The South Florence and Johnsonville softball teams made it farther than most would have thought possible at the beginning of the year. In fact, both coaches agreed the only real disappointment was how the season ended.

Buford swept away Johnsonville’s state title dreams with a second straight shutout to capture the Class A softball championship on Wednesday night at the Lady Jackets’ field.

For the second time in three years, Johnsonville’s quest for the lower state championship was thwarted on its home field by Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Red Raiders won 4-3 and 7-2 on Friday to advance to the Class A state championship series.

Johnsonville scored all three of its runs in the first inning and Rachel Gaster shut out East Clarendon on one hit as the Flashes earned a 3-0 win Friday in the Class A lower state softball championship.

On a mission since the start of the season, the Johnsonville baseball team is right were it wants to be. Now the Flashes have two chances to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself.

The town of Johnsonville is home to only about 1,500 people, and all of them might be at the high school on Friday night. Both the baseball and softball teams are playing host to lower state championship games, with a berth in the state title game on the line.

When Ryan Poston took over the Johnsonville softball program five years ago, 68 girls showed interest in joining the team. After a tough offseason training regimen that was designed to test their commitment, only 12 made it to tryouts.

The Flashes’ Baseball Team improved their conference rating this week with wins over Hemingway 20 - 4, and Latta 20 - 0.
