Rankin to hold onto state senate seat
Incumbent Luke Rankin, R-Myrtle Beach, looked set to earn a fifth term in the S.C. Senate in District 33, overcoming a Demo cratic challenger for the second time. Rankin, 46, pulled nearly three quarters of the votes away from two-time challenger Jara Uzenda, 62, a contractor.
Incumbents leading in Horry County Council races
Three incumbents facing challengers for their seats on Horry County Council were leading Tuesday night with more than 95 percent of precincts reporting. But Democratic Councilman Marion Foxworth’s lead had narrowed to 91 votes of 9,447 cast, preliminary results showed.
Horry voters say ‘yes’ to the penny
Horry County school board Chairman Will Garland said he was shocked and surprised at the number of people who voted for the tax, but said it was a credit to how well the school district, Horry Georgetown Technical College and Coastal Carolina University got the message out.
