Atlantic Beach mayoral election set for January 13
The Atlantic Beach Election Commission met Wednesday to set a date for another mayoral election in the town, the second in weeks in the town. Town councilwoman Retha Pierce won two previous mayoral contests in the town, but election troubles, criminal charges have caused courts to overturn the results.

Conway’s new mayor gets down to work
Mayor-elect Alys Lawson was declared the official winner and said now it’s time to get to work. Lawson said her plans for the future of Conway include making the city larger.

Conway elects first female mayor
The unofficial results have Alys Lawson, with just over 50 percent of the overall vote, as the winner of the special election needed to replace Mayor Gregory Martin, who died in September.

Conway residents vote today on new mayor
Conway voters are heading to the polls to choose a new mayor. There are four candidates who are running for mayor, Mayor pro-tem Alys Lawson, Councilwoman Vivian Chestnut, former councilman Leslie McIver, and political newcomer Russ Calhoun.

Runoff scheduled for Atlantic Beach mayor
The town of Atlantic Beach still does not have a mayor. After counting the contested votes Thursday morning, no candidate received a majority of the votes to win.

Atlantic Beach councilwoman Retha Pierce leads the vote totals in the town’s disputed mayor’s race. Pierce was one vote shy of winning a majority that could have won her the mayor’s office in Tuesday’s election.

Horry County school board welcomes members
The Horry County school board welcomed four members. Kay Loftus, Paul Peterson, John Poston, and Trent Hardee were given the oath of office at Monday night’s board meeting at the Academy for Technology and Academics.
Not enough evidence for recount in District 9 race
After many hours of testimony Monday, it was decided there will be no re-count in an Horry County Board of Education election. District 9 incumbent Ronald Bessant lost by just 121 votes in the November 4 election.

Demand for Inaugural tickets high in SC
Sen. Lindsey Graham said his office has received more than a thousand requests for about 300 tickets. Congressman Henry Brown’s press secretary Katie McKinney said Browns’ office has received more than 1,500 requests, for about 250 tickets.

Recount set for Horry District 3 council race
A razor-thin margin in the vote count for Horry County Council District 3 has triggered a mandatory recount in a race between Democratic incumbent Marion Foxworth and Republican challenger Keith Van Winkle.
