For the second straight year, the Hemingway Tigers and Carvers Bay Bears will meet in the Class 1A football playoffs.

After an absence of several years, the music program at Hemingway High School is beginning to show signs of life again.

Josh Dollard is skipping his senior season at USC Aiken. The former Hemingway standout will be heading overseas to play professionally, the school said Thursday.

The Flashes’ Baseball Team improved their conference rating this week with wins over Hemingway 20 - 4, and Latta 20 - 0.

Carvers Bay’s Girls Varsity Softball Team got off to a good start this season, winning the Latta Pre-Season Tournament, then putting up wins against Hemingway, Lake City and Lake View.

Jazjuan Wilson scored 15 points and Tashan Frederick added 13 as Hemingway advanced to the third round of the Class A boys basketball playoffs with a 90-64 win over Estill on Friday.

For Lake City, Monday’s game was another step in the right direction, coach Willie Thomas said. For Timmonsville, it was a much-needed reality check, coach Gerald Wright said.

Hemingway’s Tashan Fredrick signed a National Letter of Intent recently to play basketball at Tennessee State University.

In the minds of many of the fans that flocked Tiger Field, the Class A Division I lower state championship was being decided Friday night when Hemingway squared off against Carvers Bay.

If you’re a football team in need of a little inspiration, take a look at Hemingway High School. Granted, injuries were, are and always will be a part of any game as violent as football. The Tigers, though, have had more than their fair share of attrition this season.

It’s always tough to lose your starting quarterback, no matter what level of football you’re playing. But try losing two. That’s what the Hemingway Tigers have dealt with the past few weeks.

Hemingway already has gotten to a rocky start by losing three starters, including quarterback and all-Pee Dee performer Denzell Wedgeworth. The senior broke his leg during a scrimmage against North Central and will miss the remainder of the season.
