Golfers are teeing off on the South Carolina coast to help the victims of a wildfire that scorched hundreds of acres earlier this year.

Coker College senior golfer, Chris Marsh, failed to make the cut at the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday afternoon. Marsh shot a 12 over, 82 on the first day of the championship and then shot an eight over, 78 on day two.

A benefit golf tournament is scheduled to tee off this week to help fire victims from the Barefoot area who were impacted by the April wildfire.

A pair of Pee Dee golfers got off to rough starts in the first round of the U.S. Amateur on Monday.

Hartsville Masonic Lodge 173 High Twelve Club held its 12th annual golf tournament on Saturday at Sandy Point Golf Course. Tournament proceeds benefit a Dixie Youth Baseball team, Christmas projects, scholarship funds and other Masonic Lodge community projects.

Sheftic fired a plus-6 78 Friday in the second round and is plus-10 after two rounds. The projected cut is at plus-3.

Sheftic had four bogeys and 14 pars on his round and is tied for 111th when he finished.

Steve Delmar, a junior from Gaithersburg, Maryland, will compete with 312 players in the national tournament in late August.

Growing up, Mark Sheftic learned the game of golf from his father, Ted. Through the years, the two have made many memories and have shared the dream that Mark would some day play on the sport’s big stage.

Woodbury, a Lake City native, fired rounds of 67 and 70 at at Little River Golf Club in Carthage, N.C.,  to for first place at 7-under with Ben Kohles.

Paul Woodbury was the overall winner among 132 golfers at this month’s 36th Annual 2009 Lake City Country Club Scholarship Invitational golf tournament.
