The Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross has partnered with Georgetown Hospital System’s HealthPoint Center for Health and Fitness to provide a four-evening basic water safety program free to residents of Georgetown County.

Georgetown County weighs ferry options for Sandy Island

Georgetown County council members decided to look into multiple ferry options for Sandy Island residents during Tuesday’s meeting. Council voted to form a committee to research three different ferry options in hopes to improve transportation for the island’s residents.

Divers find boat from Sandy Island tragedy

Divers with South Carolina’s Department of Natural Resources said they found the boat that sunk off Sandy Island about a month ago and killed three people.
Six people were in the boat that sank in the Waccamaw River Feb. 18.

During the Fiver Rivers embezzlement case, defense attorneys uncovered subpoenas the 15th Circuit solicitor’s office used to gather evidence in the case that a judge later ruled were “defective.”

Georgetown County sheriff’s deputy arrested for criminal sexual conduct

Authorities with the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ron Christopher Crabtree, 35, former Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputy, this afternoon for Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd Degree and Lewd Act on a Child.

Sandy Island victims’ funerals will be at Waccamaw High

There are more than 700 students at the Georgetown County High School and the principal said just about everyone of has been affected by the loss of not one, but two students, in the boating accident at Sandy Island late Wednesday.

Child remains hospitalized after boat capsizes

Preliminary autopsy reports show his mother, 19-year-old Shaquatia Robinson, drowned. His grandmother, 47-year-old mother Luann Robinson, and 17-year-old Rishard Pyatt also died. Two others survived.
