Residents mark one year anniversary of Sandy Island boat tragedy

Federal money could help provide new ferry service for Sandy Island residents
GEORGETOWN—If a multi-hundred-thousand dollar federal grant is approved, Sandy Island residents will have half the money needed for a new ferry service to transport them back and forth to the mainland.

MYRTLE BEACH — Survey results by Clemson University’s Carolina Clear stormwater pollution and awareness program show that nearly nine in 10 residents of Horry and Georgetown counties recognize that stormwater is not treated before it reaches rivers, lakes and streams, but only one-third of those residents pick up after their pets.

GEORGETOWN—A group of Georgetown High School students who pray together every morning before school can no longer do that. The school district told the students they can’t hold their daily prayer meetings since it is not an official club at the school.

Jury convicts Andrews man on federal drugs, weapons charges
A jury has convicted an Andrews man of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, possessing with the intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of crack cocaine, carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
