Johnsonville High School is to operate under normal hours on Wednesday.

Filing for Seats 1, 4, and 7 of Florence County School District 5 Board of Trustees will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning June 15.
Filing will close at noon July 1.

Members of the Florence School District 5 Board of Trustees invite the public to meet the finalists for the Johnsonville-based school district’s next superintendent.

First reading of Florence School District 5’s proposed 2009-10 general fund budget totaling $9.9 million has been approved by members of the board of trustees.

Two school superintendents and a chief student services director have been named finalists for Florence School District 5’s superintendent position: Dr. F. Jane Cobia, superintendent of Sylacauga City Schools in Sylacauga, Ala.; Dr. D. John Morris, chief student services director at Guilford County Schools in Greensboro, N.C.; and Fay Sprouse, superintendent of Greenwood 51 School District in Ware Shoals

Florence School District 5 Board of Trustees have determined several dates to interview potential candidates as it searches for the district’s next superintendent.

Florence School District 5 Superintendent Dr. Dale Strickland has announced he would retire as head of the Johnsonville-based school district, effective June 30. He has served as superintendent for the past 10 years.

Jeffrey Tanner and Holly Wall, both board members of Florence School District 5’s Board of Trustees, have been elected to serve another term.
