New Millennium Building Systems, a joist manufacturing company based out of Fort Wayne, Ind., has announced the closing of its plant in Florence.

Additional jobs welcomed in the Pee Dee

Some good news has arrived for Florence residents looking for jobs. The new Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Beltline Drive is slated to open sometime this fall. Company leaders say that means between 250 and 300 jobs will be available—jobs that are much needed in the Pee Dee.

Ox Bodies’ plant shutting down

A plant in Marlboro County has closed its doors for good, effective immediately, increasing the county’s already high unemployment rate. Ox Bodies, a dump truck manufacturer in Bennettsville, came to South Carolina about five years ago and employed 30 people in the county.

Job shadowing turns into paid employment

Every Tuesday and Thursday from September to May, Lake City High School junior Jodi Lee climbed into her car at 9:30 a.m. and left the school’s campus. She wasn’t leaving so she could skip Anne Andren’s Accounting II class and climb back in bed for some extra sleep. Instead, she left a traditional classroom to go to another one that is quite different.
