Stokes to speak at refuge meeting
Sam Stokes, S.C. Department of Natural Resources Region 2 wildlife coordinator, will speak during the Friends of Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge’s meeting Thursday.
Land trust to protect 950 acres in Williamsburg County

Underwater robots search for answers to save marine life
Grand Strand researchers are using underwater robots to help prevent a blow to South Carolina’s tourism industry. Coastal Carolina professors say in 2004, they noticed a large amount of flounder being caught, and were alarmed.

Pioneer Camps at Wildlife Action continue to teach children about conservation
For the past 30 years, the Wildlife Action chapter in Mullins has been teaching its members the true meaning of independence and self-reliance. While it provides a wide range of camps, for ages 6-14, some are designed to personify the definition of the outdoors.
Pee Dee switchgrass research could be stymied by legislation
A broad-based program making renewable energy from biofuel crops at the Clemson University Pee Dee Research and Education Center is among those caught in the crosshairs of a state Supreme Court ruling June 23 that struck down bobtailing.

FLATS signs standards agreement
The Florence Area Transportation Study (FLATS) Policy Committee has signed an agreement so that if the area doesn’t meet standards for the pollutant ground-level ozone, it won’t be alone in correcting the problem.
Santee Cooper to buy more green power
The state-owned utility Santee Cooper says it will buy an additional 1 percent of power from businesses that use renewable sources.
