Titans complete record-setting season

On Oct. 31, the Trinity Collegiate School boys’ cross country team won its second straight 2A SCISA Cross Country State title, ending a remarkable season.

Darlington County School Board approves new high school schedule

The Darlington County School Board unanimously approved a new seven-period schedule for district high schools for 2010-11 during the monthly board meeting in Darlington.

Ebony Pearls Banquet set for Saturday

The National Council of Negro Women in Darlington County is honoring exemplary citizens from throughout the county who have made significant contributions in education, politics, business, religion, arts, athletics, law enforcement, medicine, media/journalism and the civic community. A life time award is being presented to Zona Mae Martin.

Lamar man arrested on chop shop charges

A Lamar man was arrested Wednesday after deputies said several cars found at his home during a drug bust were found to have been stolen, Darlington County Sheriff’s Capt. Andy Locklair said.

Taste of the Farm allows residents to sample local products

Palmettovores were on the prowl Thursday night at the Taste of the Farm, sponsored by the Greater Darlington County Chamber of Commerce. In the first of what will become an annual event, vendors paid tribute to South Carolina agriculture.

EDITORIAL: Stimulus spending has more than two sides

On Friday, the White House released estimates that $160 billion in stimulus spending created or preserved 650,000 direct jobs. The stimulus program awarded $3.8 billion to South Carolina, and $702 million have been received, according to recovery.gov. These funds have created or saved 8,147 jobs as of Oct. 30, and these jobs are quite welcome given the state of our state.

Animal shelter shows off improvements

The Darlington County Humane Society showed off some recent improvements at the animal shelter Thursday with an open house at the facility. Among the improvements is a new adoption courtyard that will allow prospective pet owners and pets the opportunity to get to know each other before an adoption.

Little Miss and Teen Miss Pageants return to Center Theater

For the 36th consecutive year, the Center Theater in Hartsville will be the site for the Little Miss and Teen Miss Hartsville and Darlington County beauty pageants. This event is a double pageant with winners crowned in each category, one representing Hartsville and one Darlington County. Winners will represent each area for 2009-10 and go on to compete in the state pageant in June.
