The Darlington County Jetport officially has a new fuel truck on the premise for patrons to use, along with a long list of repairs that county administrator Phyllis Griffitts reported.

Secondary runway 10/34 will come up at the Darlington County Jetport, as decided by the Darlington County Council. At Monday’s meeting, the council approved hiring Hartsville-based Dawkins Concrete to tear up runway 34.

Darlington County Council would like the county’s jetport commission to work with the pilots who use the jetport and prioritize which projects need immediate attention.

Darlington County Council members have approved second reading of an ordinance that would require all those appointed by the Darlington County Council to serve on boards and commissions to be and remain legal residents of Darlington County, placing it a step closer to passage.

Some new people were in attendance as the Darlington County Jetport Commission and county tried to mend some wounds during Tuesday’s special commission meeting.

The Darlington County Council Monday night approved a grant and construction bid to make lighting improvements at the county airport.

Darlington City Council approved the budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year after its second reading Tuesday night. City Manager Rodney Langley said the general fund budget is $7.063 million, which is about $1 million more than last year’s budget. The water and sewer budget is $2.461 million. Last year’s was $2.7 million.

Darlington County Council gave final approval Monday to a $32.5 million county budget for fiscal 2009. Council gave unanimous third-reading approval to eight ordinances making up the budget package.
