After their first round of play in the 2009 season, the Cobra golf team is seven strokes off the mark, placing them in eighth with a score of 298 (+10) at the Kiawah Island Invitational.

The Coker men’s soccer team improved to 5-0 with a 1-0 win over Brevard College on Sunday in men’s soccer action.

In their second day of the Labor Day tournament at Limestone, the Coker Cobras failed to pick up a win in two matches.

The Lions’ men’s soccer team lost to Coker College Saturday afternoon, 2-0 in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 0-3-1 while the Cobras improved to 4-0 on the season.

Coker volleyball dropped a pair of matches Friday to Limestone (3-1) and Lander (3-0).

Daniel Shrizad, Enrique Barrientos and AJ Sweeney each scored a goal as the Coker men’s soccer team defeated North Greenville 3-0 on Wednesday.
With the win, Coker improves to 3-0.

Ashley Bradford’s goal in the 83rd minute gave the Chowan a 2-1 win over Coker in women’s soccer Sunday.

Daniel Shrizad had a hat trick and Tyler Seneca had two goals as the Coker men’s soccer team improved to 2-0 with an 8-0 win over Chowan on Sunday.

Coker volleyball opened its season Friday with a pair of losses in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
UNC Pembroke defeated the Cobras in straight sets 25-11, 25-17 and 25-21, while Lenoir-Rhyne beat Coker 28-26, 25-23 and 25-17.

Freshmen Eric Stiefield and Enrique Barrientos got their college career off to a good start on Thursday night, as they led the Cobras to a 2-1 win over the UNC-Pembroke Braves. Stiefield (Eustis, Fla.) scored both of Coker’s goals, while Barrientos (Plano, Texas) gave Stiefield the opportunity to score, assisting on both goals.

The Coker women’s soccer team opened their 2009 season on a rough note Thursday night. The Lady Cobras (0-1) fell to Newberry College (1-0) 4-1, starting this season the same way they ended last season,  giving the Coker women 12 straight losses dating back to Oct. 1 of last year.

Newberry jumped on Coker early, scoring two goals in the game’s first 13 minutes and netting all the team’s four goals in the first half. Newberry outshot the Cobras 22-2 en route to the victory.

Despite playing at a man disadvantage for the final 56 minutes of regulation, Coker used a pair of goals from Eric Stiefield and limited UNCP to just a trio of shots to post a victory over the Braves in the season opener for both squads.

The Coker College Sports Information Department will offer live play-by-play statistical coverage of this evening’s women’s and men’s soccer contests. The Lady Cobras will take on Newberry College, while the Cobra Men face the Braves of UNC-Pembroke.

Paul Leese is wiping the slate clean as he begins his first season as Coker men’s soccer coach. “I told them all starting positions are up for grabs and even if you are returning prove yourself again,” Leese said.
