The city of Marion will receive $12,174 in federal funds through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said in a press release issued this past Wednesday.

The Fox Watch group held their first meeting this past Tuesday at the Marion Opera House and was presented a $6,000 check from the city to jumpstart the organization.

An investiture ceremony was held this past Wednesday at the Marion County Court House for new City of Marion Municipal Judge Patricia A. Speth.

After an executive session, Marion City Council members appointed Patricia Speth as Municipal Judge. Speth will be sworn in at 4 p.m. on July 22 in the Marion County Courthouse on Main Street.

City of Marion Mayor Rodney Berry and City Council members are proclaiming, with Pastor Marvin Hemingway, that the next Marion County Youth Day will be on the third Saturday annual of the month of October.

In addition to the budget workshops this week, councils have other business to contend with. County officials will look into alternatives to the county’s plan to place the county’s central EMS site in the soon-to-be-built City of Marion fire substation on Sen. Gasque Road near MarCo Rural Water’s office.

Main Street Marion, Historic Marion Revitalization Association had its annual meeting earlier this month. The group is planning its annual fundraiser, an auction, at 7 p.m. on May 22.

Marion County Council will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Marion City Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both meetings will be in City Hall on Main Street.
