UNC beats Coastal, bringing historic season to a close
North Carolina beat Coastal Carolina 14-4 on Sunday to win the Cary Super Regional and reach the College World Series for the third straight year. The loss capped a historic season for the Chants, in which CCU won 50 games and advanced to their first-ever super regional appearance.

Coastal to be short 2 pitchers for super regionals
If Coastal Carolina is going to stage a super regional rally, the Chanticleers will have to do it short-handed. Coastal Carolina will be without staff ace Bobby Gagg and reliever Joey Haug for the rest of the Cary Super Regional — and maybe even beyond.

Three Chants taken on second draft day
As the Chants hit the practice field in Cary, NC preparing for the Super Regional against UNC, word came trickling in that three CCU players were taken on day two of the First Year Players Amateru baseball draft. OF David Sappelt, OF Tommy Baldridge and RP Jeff Richard were all taken by major league ball clubs.
Two Chants get taken on draft’s first day
Coastal Carolina relief pitcher Pete Andrelczyk and catcher Dock Doyle were both selected in the fifth round of the First Year Players Amateur draft. Andrelczyk was selected by the Marlins, and a few picks later, Doyle was taken by the Mets.

Doyle a finalist for Bench award
Dock Doyle has been Coastal’s best hitter this year. The Conway native may go down as the best catcher in the country. Tuesday Doyle was named as one of the three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation’s top catcher.

Chants dominate East Carolina, move to first Super Regional
Coastal Carolina scored 21 runs in four innings to advance to the programs first NCAA Super Regional Tournament in a 24-11 victory over East Carolina.
NCAA Baseball Conway Regional: East Carolina eliminates Alabama, 16-1
East Carolina starting pitcher Justin Bristow allowed one run over seven innings Sunday to lead the Pirates to a 16-1 win over Alabama in an elimination game at the NCAA Conway Regional. The win advances ECU to face top-seeded Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Chanticleers are ready to take the next step. They’ve been a number one seed, they’ve hosted a regional, they’ve gained national respect. But there’s one major hurdle left to climb - reach the College World Series.
Coastal readies Watson Stadium for Regional
Watson Stadium was not built to host a baseball regional. So this week Coastal is trying to work around that fact. The university grounds staff is adding seating, implementing a new press box, moving bullpens and constructing more concession stands to help get the stadium ready for its first ever regional.

CCU falls to Liberty 13-1, heads to deciding game of Big South Tournament
Liberty freshman starter Stephen Evans limited No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina to three hits and the No. 2 seed Flames pounded out 13 runs and 14 hits in a 13-1 win over the Chanticleers in Game 10 of the 2008 Royal Purple Big South Conference Baseball Championship, forcing a necessary Game 11 to determine the Big South Tournament champion.

CCU alum has miracle shot at Colonial
Dustin Johnson needed a miracle shot to make the cut at the Colonial. And that’s exactly what he pulled off. The Coastal Carolina product recorded his first hole-in-one in PGA Tour play in Friday’s second round of the Crown Plaza Invitational.
CCU moves on to Big South title game
Coastal almost let it slip away, but the Chants hang on to a 8-6 victory over Winthrop, sending the Eagles home and themselves to the Big South Tournament Championship Game.
