The attorney representing the Varinecz family of Myrtle Beach says the 16-year-old recently shot to death by a school resource officer is remembered as a “polite, kind soul.”

The funeral for the 16 year old Carolina Forest High School student who police said stabbed an Horry County School Resource Officer last week is set for Wednesday.

Carolina Forest football coach Drew Hummel said his team carried a community on its back when it took the field against South Florence on Monday. In a game that had been postponed due to the stabbing of a resource officer and subsequent shooting death of a student at Carolina Forest on Friday, the Panthers persevered on both sides of the ball.

During the 2008-2009 school year, 117 students were expelled for bringing a non-firearm weapon on the ground of a SC school. An additional 18 students were expelled for having a firearm on campus.

The Horry County police report obtained by News13 says that the teen, later identified as 16-year-old Trevor Varinecz, had two knives while in the officer’s school office.

Students returned to class at Carolina Forest High School Monday morning after a stabbing and shooting Friday.

Memorial services have been scheduled for Trevor Varinecz, the Carolina Forest High School student who died from gunshot wounds Friday morning.

Allen said students and parents will notice a difference when they arrive Monday morning.  “We’re going to have additional staff, I’m going to shift us to more of the key entry points, not because I think we need to from a security standpoint, but I think it’s important that parents realize that we took it serious and we’re here and I think they need to see us first thing when they get here.“

As the investigation continues into to why a fight broke out between a student at Carolina Forest High School and the school’s resource officer, and police saying the student was shot and killed after stabbing the officer, students returned to class for the first time since the incident.

Because of the shooting death of a student at Carolina Forest High School in Conway, the football game between Carolina Forest High and South Florence High, which was scheduled for Friday at Memorial Stadium in Florence,  has been postponed.

A teacher at Carolina Forest high school got a big surprise Tuesday morning, Aundrea Rue got a vist from the South Carolina department of Education. Rue won a mini-grant valued at $4,000 for participating in an Anatomy in Clay workshop. 

While the Carolina Panthers were blowing it against the Cowboys on the NFL’s Monday Night Football, the Carolina Forest Panthers were all smiles for the high school version.  Chris Nwanegno kicked a 26 yard field goal with under a minute to go to give the Panthers a 10-7 win over Socastee.

Carolina Forest’s Marlon Horton watched Wednesday’s practice with his arm in a sling.  The pain he’s feeling right now in his shoulder is eased a bit knowing he led his team to their first win since 2007 on Friday.
