Myrtle Beach product Ramon Sessions has gone from just a baller at the beach to the big time.  This week the Milwaukee Buck has been on the Grand Strand teaching kids, that they too can leave Myrtle Beach and make it to the NBA.

Street ball Classic set in Dillon this Sunday

The Summer Celebrity Street ball Classic will be in Dillon this Sunday. At half-time, gospel artist Kendra Smith of Dillon and the Dillon High School Band will perform. The event is a fundraiser for Smith and the band and tickets are $13 in advance and will be $18 at the door.

Patriots pick up Lancaster’s Howze

Francis Marion women’s basketball coach Heather Macy has announced that 6-foot forward Tenisha Howze of Lancaster will attend FMU this fall and join the Patriot basketball team for 2008-09. Howze is a graduate of Lancaster High School, where she played for coach Ronnie Robinson.

Coker announces basketball recruiting class

Dan Schmotzer decided to not look to far away from home for the core of his recruiting class. Coker’s 2008-2009 men’s basketball recruits were announced today and four of the seven are from the Palmetto State.

Milton Jennings hasn’t stopped traveling this summer.  The Clemson commitment is on a Myrtle Beach-based travelling AAU team and has also participated in some NBA players workout camps, most notably LeBron James and Amare Stoudamire.

Powell headed to tryout camp

Former Wilson and South Carolina standout Carlos Powell will be attending a tryout for the Korean Basketball League next week. The camp will take place July 17-19 in Las Vegas. Powell is one of 147 invited to attend the camp.

Florence Police mentor through sports

Several Florence Police officers are spending their summer dribbling into the hearts and minds of the children enrolled in the department’s Summer Youth Basketball Camp. The camp, which began June 9, is held weekly at Southside Middle School, said Florence Police Chief Anson Shells.

Lee leaves USC for C of C

For the second straight year USC will be looking for a new assistant baseball coach, as Monte Lee has accepted the head coaching position at the College of Charleston.
