Florence starting pitcher Spencer Jordan didn’t expect to go the entire nine innings Wednesday night in a 5-1 win against host Spartanburg in the opening round of the American Legion state championship tournament at Duncan Park Stadium.

Rayshawn Coe hit a three-run homer and Casey Kelley drilled a towering two-run shot to help Hartsville National to a 12-3 victory over Lake Marion at the McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament on Wednesday.

RedWolves split with Tobs
Steven Neff’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning helped the Florence RedWolves to a 2-1 win over Wilson in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday. Wilson won the second game 3-2.
Post 1 eyes state tournament title
Comeback kids? No need for that title this year. The seemingly impossible late-inning rallies that defined Florence Post 1’s 2008 season were replaced this year by dominant performances and lopsided scores. Comebacks are rarely required when a team averages 10.5 runs a game.

McLeod Park Majors win easily
Austin Drummond hit his third home run in as many days, a three-run shot in the fourth inning, to help McLeod Park beat Laurens 9-1 on Monday in the Majors division of the Dixie Youth state tournament at Freedom Florence.
Blowfish come back to beat RedWolves
Columbia’s late offensive heroics led to five runs and the Blowfish beat Florence 7-5 on Monday in Coastal Plain League baseball.
Maple Park Minors, Hartsville Majors win again
D’Juan Scudder had two hits and drove in two runs and Maple Park held off a late Pineview rally to claim an 8-6 win on the second day of the Dixie Youth Baseball Minors state tournament on Sunday at Freedom Florence.

The Florence Junior American Legion baseball team captured its third straight state championship Sunday with a 9-3 win over Marion in the championship game.
