Animal shelter shows off improvements
The Darlington County Humane Society showed off some recent improvements at the animal shelter Thursday with an open house at the facility. Among the improvements is a new adoption courtyard that will allow prospective pet owners and pets the opportunity to get to know each other before an adoption.

At the Murrells Inlet Veterinary Hospital, manager Jennifer Hoffman said they have not seen a lot of people who have come to the point where they cannot keep their animals due to foreclosure or other financial issues, but they have seen a number of people who cannot provide as much veterinary care due to the economy.
