After picking up a 5-3 victory on the road against Bishopville Post 29, Marion Post 5 clinched the Jr. American Legion baseball post-season series with a 5-4 win at Fox Field on July 8.

With Post 1 leading 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning against Lake City on Monday, heavy rain forced the two squads to reschedule the contest for Friday at 7 p.m. at West Florence High School.

Marion coach Chris Drose and his Post 5 squad will host the Jr. Legion baseball State tournament at Fox Field starting July 22-26.

Post 1 is closing in on a playoff spot. After switching to League II this season, Florence has remained unbeaten in nine games thus far. Two more wins and Post 1 will clinch another postseason berth under coach Derick Urquhart. 

Cody Ritch, Spencer Jordan and Michael Wilson combined to drive in 10 runs as Post 1 remained unbeaten in League II play with a 14-2 win over Conway in seven innings Wednesday.

Tyler Boyd hit three home runs in two games and Florence swept an American Legion baseball doubleheader from Murrells Inlet late Monday night, winning 6-0 and 8-2.

Tuesday was quite a day for Post 1 coach Derick Urquhart. At 7:40 p.m., Urquhart became a father with the birth of Catherine Dawes. About two hours later, Florence defeated Georgetown 6-4 for Urquhart’s 100th career win as a coach.
