CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coast Guard rescued three people and a dog at approximately 4:15 a.m. Saturday after their 22-foot SeaPro fishing vessel ran aground approximately one mile off Edisto Beach, S.C.
Samuel Blevins, Angela Jackson, Jessica Watts, James Redmand, ages and residence unknown and a dog, Diesel, called a relative via cell phone after their vessel grounded on a sandbar and began taking on water. The distress call was then relayed to the local authorities and the Coast Guard to assist.
A Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston helicopter crew rescued three of the boaters and the dog while Redmand stayed aboard the vessel while a good Samaritan towed it to shore.
Blevins, Jackson, Watts and Diesel were rescued in good condition taken to a local airport.
The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to be safe and always wear a life jacket when out on the water. The Coast Guard also reminds boaters to know the limitations of their crew and vessel before leaving shore.
