Rex to announce new teacher recruitment initiative

     State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex will announce a new statewide teacher recruitment initiative on Tuesday in partnership with BlueCross/BlueShield of South Carolina, Time Warner Cable, and Palmetto Horizon, Inc.  According to a press release issued by the State Department of Education, a news conference will be held at 10:00 a.m. today at Brookland-Cayce High School's media center.

     Rex's office says schools in South Carolina and across the nation are struggling to fill teacher vacancies in key academic subjects, and there is a national shortage of young people interested in entering the profession.
