WASHINGTON, D.C. - First District Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon following Governor Mark Sanford’s admission that he has been involved in an extramaritial affair with a woman from Argentina:

“Upon hearing the Governor’s announcement today, I want to extend my heartfelt thoughts to the Sanford family during this most difficult time. I am saddened at the news of this revelation and encourage the people of South Carolina to allow the Sanford family to deal with this matter with the privacy that each of us would hope for.“

The governor was quick to ask for president Clintons resegnation in the interest of fairness he should take the same action. He is supposed to be an example to the people of the state of South Carolina.Yes we are all human and make mistakes but when you are in the position of a leader you must be above reproach so the people will have someone who they can trust, and lead them by example.
