Chesterfield GOP official calls for Sanford’s resignation

As the situation involving Governor Sanford these past weeks continues to unfold, I am saddened to see confidence and trust in the governor decline. 

As voters, we hold all of our elected officials to a higher standard, regardless of political party. We rely on their honesty and expect a full commitment to the needs of every citizen of this state and Chesterfield County.

For an elected official to truly govern effectively, he must have the trust of his constituents, and as local Republicans, Democrats, and Independents confide in me, it is now clear that Governor Sanford cannot fully regain the trust of Chesterfield County.

As a service to the citizens of South Carolina and Chesterfield County, I am asking Governor Sanford resign from office.  My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the governor, Jenny and their boys.

I ask that all of Chesterfield County join me in praying for the Sanford family, our state and our county during these times. .
