RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—Gov. Beverly Perdue has announced the North Carolina road projects that will benefit from the first batch of federal transportation stimulus money.

Perdue announced Tuesday the 70 highway and bridge projects that will share $466 million in stimulus money. The governor was traveling around the state Tuesday to hold news conferences highlighting some of the projects.

These projects will receive the first round of money from the $838 million in transportation-related funds ultimately coming to North Carolina.

Perdue said state transportation officials said Tuesday’s projects will create about 14,000 jobs.

These projects were chosen first because they can be under contract by June.

The governor said the second half of road and bridge projects should be released by early April.
