RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—The former head of the Brunswick County Republican Party is moving to the North Carolina House.
The Star-News of Wilmington reported Wednesday that Brunswick County GOP leaders chose Frank Iler on Tuesday night to replace Bonner Stiller. Iler will serve the remainder of Stiller’s two-year term in the 17th House District.
Gov. Beverly Perdue is required by law to appoint the party’s nominee.
Iler is a retired Oak Island resident who was county chairman from 2006 until March.
County GOP executive committee members chose Iler over county school board chairwoman Shirley Babson.
Stiller stepped down in the middle of his fourth term because he said he needed to spend more time with his four children and to work in his law practice.
