Recount holds; Shaw wins District 7 nomination
The Darlington County Voter Registration and Elections office held a recount of the votes for the Darlington County Council Seat District 7 Republican Primary race between David Stanton and Alex “Buz” Shaw.
Shaw, the incumbent, won the primary by four votes 235-231 over Stanton.
Since the vote was that close, a mandatory recount was conducted to ensure accuracy. After the recount, the vote stands as originally counted.
“Everything went well and the vote stayed the same, 235-231,” Darlington County Voter and Registration Director Hoyt Campbell said.
This gives Shaw the Republican nomination for the District 7 seat on Darlington’s County Council.
Since there is no Democratic opposition for the seat, Shaw will remain in office.
Shaw said the primary election was unusual this time because people were confused about what they could vote for.
Shaw also said he appreciates everything the people in Darlington County have done for him. “I’m glad to be back on [county council],“ he said. “I’ll do my best to serve. It is an honor to serve the people in this area.“
Shaw has served on the county council for 16 years.
