Filing period for city elections continues
Hartsville City Councilman Bob Braddock filed Wednesday to run for reelection to the District 5 seat on council.
Braddock is completing his first term on council.
He joins Councilwoman Adlena Graham, who filed last Friday to run for another term in the District 1 seat. Graham has represented District 1 since June of 1993.
Voters in Districts 1, 3 and 5 will elect council members on Nov. 3.
As of late Wednesday, no one had filed to succeed David McFarland in the District 3 seat. McFarland, who has represented District 3 since November 2001 and most recently served as mayor pro tem, was sworn in as mayor on Aug. 11 to serve the remainder of the term of former Mayor Michael S. Holt, who resigned on Aug. 2 to take a seat as a state family court judge.
McFarland said earlier this week that he will not run for a full term as mayor and will not run for another term representing District 3.
In the race to succeed Holt as mayor, Pam Sansbury, a former council member and former city finance director, and Mel Pennington, a businessman and member of the city planning commission, have both filed to run.
Filing for city offices opened on Friday and continues through noon Sept. 4. Candidates must file and pay their filing fees with the city clerk’s office.
To be eligible to vote in the election, citizens must be registered to vote by Oct. 3.
