The Marion County Voter Registration office said the run off election for Marion County Council District 2 seat, between incumbent Eloise Rogers and challenger Cynthia Legette, went smoothly Tuesday. Rogers had 644 votes and Legette had 525 votes, according to unofficial results after all eight precincts were counted.

“It’s been pretty quiet,“ the office’s assistant Tammy Barr said. At 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, in one precinct, only 35 voters had visited, while in another, by the same time, only 14 voters had participated in the run off. County Council District 2 covers a large part of Marion County, from Britton’s Neck and Friendship in southern Marion County, to parts of the city of Marion and the town of Sellers in the northwestern portion of the county.

In the primary on June 10, Rogers took 608 votes to Diane Day Lewis’ 143 votes and Legette’s 569 votes. Without a clear majority, Legette and Rogers had to face one another in the run off.
In results released by the Marion County Voters Registration and Election Commission Tuesday evening,

According to Marion County Voter Registration records, Marion County has 23,450 voters, of which only 8,191 voted — accounting for nearly 35 percent of registered voters.
