Myrtle Beach High School group headed to Inauguration

The trip is still days away, but Myrtle Beach High School students Kendall Seagroves, Amanda Millen, and Shelley Krzyzeniak could barely contain their excitement.

The girls are part of a group of more than 40 Seahawks students who will hit the road for Washington, D.C. on Sunday, to be in our nation’s capital for Tuesday’s historic Inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama.

“I don’t know what to expect,“ said Seagroves. “It’s going to be really cool because I get to go with all of my friends.“

History teacher Lyndsey Martin helped organize the trip, which was set up long before Obama’s win in November.

“I think (the students) respect what’s going on, and regardless of who they (voted) for, it’s the inauguration,“ Martin said. “For the adults that are going, we just can’t believe we have this type of opportunity.“

It’s an opportunity some of the students never thought they would have, either.

“They’re writing it in the (history) books as we speak,“ said Millen.

The group leaves Sunday, and will begin submitting photos and blogs to scnow.com and the News13 Network. Be sure to check back throughout the week for updates on their trip.
