Fifty cadets of the North Myrtle Beach Junior Naval ROTC are hanging on to one goal and one dream. They are hoping with the skills they have learned, to become a part of history and march at Barack Obama’s inauguration in the nation’s capitol on January 20th.

“I’m really excited to go to the inauguration trip,” said Commanding Officer Tracia Ellinger who along with her fellow Cadets has put in hours and even moths of dedication to get their drills down with precision.” It is the first black president and that is a very very historical thing.“

The young hopefuls are full of anticipation as they have not yet received confirmation, but they along with their instructors and chaperones are keeping a promise to themselves that no matter what maybe the outcome they will make sure they get to witness history first hand.

NJROTC cadet, Zachariah Moser is keeping his fingers crossed, as he too along with Ellinger, has worked very hard.

“I hope we can march and I hope I can get to ask Obama a question that would be amazing,” said Moser, “but if we don’t then it doesn’t really matter that much.“

The group is quite proud of the many awards they’ve received for their drill meets, but their instructor Senior chief Keith Moore says, getting a trip to the inauguration would be a tremendous boost. That’s why he adds, the cadets are relying on the public’s help to fund the trip.

They work hard and the people in the community here do recognize that,” said Sr. Chief Moore. “They see them and we’ve already gotten a few donations that’s trickled in.”

Donations can be sent to North Myrtle Beach High School NJROTC Booster Club at 3750 Sea Mountain Highway; Little River, SC 29566, Attn: Chief William Cain.
