LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Writer blasts man’s letter as attempt to score God/Allah points

Response to Mr. Tedder concerning religion:

Mr. Tedder, is it so difficult for you to understand that your particular religious views are likewise a dream in someone else’s eyes? Much of the fuss is not about “conservative white Christians” having free speech, it’s about you trying to impose your religious standards on people who don’t ascribe to them. You respond with vigorous indignation at how Muslims are managing to get some governments to make changes in favor of Islamic law, but you are attempting to do the same thing here.

I am not commenting on the usefulness of the laws put up by Christians or Muslims, just your justifications for them (which is virtually identical). “This is a great new law. Why? Well, just let me read from the Bible/Koran here and you’ll find out why!” That is your basic reasoning process, only in a very concise form. You both seek to implement religiously justified laws on secular bodies and wonder why there’s protest? If your reasoning was simply “this is a good law because we help people in this way,” then it would work. But you just can’t help slipping that religious justification in to score more God/Allah points, can you?
