LETTER TO THE EDITOR: What happened to ‘The Customer Is Always Right’ attitude?
Published: July 2, 2009
I would like to add to the letter Ms. Ruth Lee sent in concerning attitudes of people in the business we spend money at. I have to agree, for the most part people range from monotone to down right rude. There have been times I’ve come to the register with several hundred dollars of merchandise and you get an attitude because they have to sort a lot of items.
Ms. Lee blames the parents for improper raising of these rude people and I agree many parents in the last couple of generations raise kids a lot different than they use too. But I also blame the owners and managers of these businesses.
The company I am employed with goes to great expense and time each year in the training of how we should treat our customers. As a manager for this company I demand it from all the people I supervise, and if not given to the customer they will be looking for a new job.
In economic times like we are experiencing now every dollar counts. It’s a shame that some people see their customer’s as an inconvenience rather than someone who is helping to keep them in a job. Whatever happened to “The Customer Is Always Right” attitude that we all use to hear about? We are living in different times now and I know no matter how much myself and others would like to see them come back I believe they are gone for good. People don’t seem to care about people anymore. But for the business owner or manager reading this take note that people now have too many options to go somewhere else than to be treated rudely by your employees that don’t care if your business succeeds or not.
