LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Timmonsville mayoral candidate Jackson is a man of character

My friend Darrick Jackson is running for mayor in the town of Timmonsville. Mr. Jackson was elected to the Timmonsville Town Council four years ago, and he was subsequently elected by council as Mayor pro tem. During his service on council, I have worked with him in my former role as Chairman of the Florence County/Municipal Planning Commission on numerous issues.

I found that Mr. Jackson is a man of character that is committed to including all the citizens of Timmonsville in town business issues, including the pros and cons of the town establishing its own planning commission. He is a lifelong citizen of Timmonsville, and he has shown that he is committed to improving the lives of all the citizens of the town.

One of the issues that I worked with him on was a request to rezone properties adjacent to Brockington Street. Mayor pro tem Jackson was concerned that the character of the area should not be changed in a way that would negatively impact the residential properties in that area. I have seen the passion he has for doing what’s right for the people of Timmonsville. I have continued to communicate with Mayor Pro Tem Jackson on issues that he is working on to improve the town’s appearance and correct the issues with the town water system. I hope the citizens of Timmonsville will give Jackson the opportunity to serve them as their mayor on Nov. 3. He is a man of vision and I know he will continue to work diligently to improve the quality of life for all of the town’s citizens.
