LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Rocky Pearce best choice for mayor of Florence

» 4 Comments | Post a Comment

I have lived in Florence all my life, and I remember when Rocky Pearce was mayor. Florence grew under his leadership.

That is why it is so hard for me to sit by the sideline when Stephen Wukela and his campaign insult Mr. Pearce the way they have done constantly since Mr. Pearce joined the race. On the other hand, I have not heard Rocky Pearce say one negative thing about Mr. Wukela.

The truth is much more telling than Wukela’s fiction.

Rocky Pearce brought growth and good jobs to Florence, and he brought transparency and accountability to city government with the Public Access Channel. He served the entire community instead of appealing only to the far left as his opponent has done.

He was a caring mayor who brought Habitat for Humanity to build better homes for poor people. Our neighborhoods were safer when Rocky Pearce was mayor. I have met Rocky Pearce on several occasions, and I firmly believe he is a stand-up, Christian man with a servant’s heart.

Mr. Pearce has run a positive campaign, appealing to all the people and sharing a vision of uniting our city and making Florence better.

I have not even once heard him resort to negative attacks, yet the same cannot be said for Wukela and his supporters.

Rocky Pearce has experience, and he has proven that he can lead in tough times.

Wukela keeps saying we need change, we need someone of integrity, but his campaign so far has given us more of the same divisive politics we have seen for years.

I think he should practice what he preaches and offer something fresh like Mr. Pearce has done: a clean campaign based on issues and real solutions. I am glad Rocky Pearce is on the ballot.

He has the experience we need in this difficult time. It is time to put the negative politics aside and do something right for Florence.

Let’s rise above petty politics and support Florence by voting Rocky Pearce for mayor.

Is this a joke? Well thank you Mr. Pearce for bringing Habitat for Humanity. We all know how well that company pays, and the thousands they hire. If your elected please get Make a Wish Foundation and maybe even Extreme Makeover Home Edition to come to Florence. There are still needy familes in Florence. If thats the only good thing he has brought to Florence it is very sad. I can’t believe you even brought that up. They go into every city, and not on the mayors request. He might be a stand up guy, but will only be a puppet to the good ol boy buddy system. Ed needs is cheese (money) for next years black family expo. Which will be held at his crib (house). Mr. Pearce must be ok with Eds fraudulentt actions. Haven’t heard Pearce asking for accountability like Wukela has. Vote Wukela don’t waste your vote on a puppet. The city will continue to fall if Pearce gets elected. It should tell you something with police officers and firefighters backing Wukela. Risking their jobs by backing a true leader. Don’t waste your vote.

Clearly, you’ve spent some time on Mr. Pearce’s website. So have I. If the Morning News’ online archive went back to the time when Mr. Pearce was Mayor, then your fond recollections of his tenure wouldn’t stand up to the scrutiny to which I would subject them. They’d wither away in the blistering heat of reality. One need only look at the members of Council who are supporting Mr. Pearce (Robinson, Williams) to see precisely the kind of politics we’d be getting a lot more of. It’s particularly ironic that a good many of the people with “Rocky” yard signs (in places like Country Club, Forest Hills, etc.) wouldn’t be caught dead in the districts of those two scoundrels, yet we are witness to exactly how politics makes for strange bedfellows. They all want to keep things just as they are. No matter how much the Pearce campaign tries to usurp ideas like “open government” and “safe streets” and “change”, all they have done is reveal that they idealistic copycats to the vision which was brought to this race by one candidate alone before the Democratic primary. Stephen Wukela. And all you have left in your linguistic legerdemain is to call those with differing opinions purveyors of “fiction.“

HA!

Who’s being negative now?

I must echo Vondo3.  I have worked closely with the Wukela campaign and can say that it has been nothing less than a professional and amiable race.  Please edit your content like you say you do, Morning News.  Undecided voters just might believe this lie you printed.

What campaign are you talking about?  Please list one single example of Wukela insulting Mr. Pearce.
