LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Reader deciphers current political language
Published: November 6, 2009
Time for a review of current political language!
Comprehensive Immigration Deform still means amnesty for foreigners who now clog schools, emergency rooms and jails. (Cal Thomas noted that Republicans want them for cheap labor and Democrats want them for votes!) Universal Health Care still means socialized medicine, as in Cuba, Europe and Canada. And some idiots call this “reform”!
Progressives — closet liberals.
Blue Dog Democrats? These are politicians who got elected by representing themselves as “centrist.” Once elected, they continue to make conservative noises, but in the end they vote the party line, perhaps after holding out for a bit of pork.
Moderate Republican — like the Blue Dogs, except their excuse is “reaching across the aisle,” which seldom gains pork for their districts.
CAP and Tax — Bureaucrats decide how much perceived pollution an entity may create. These entities can then create more carbon if the bureaucrats are properly paid. (see A. Gore, J. Kerry and L. Graham). From Wiley’s Dictionary (in the comic strip B.C) comes this delightful descriptive: gan-grene: The Environmental Mafia.)
Fairness Doctrine — Some unabashedly right-wing radio hosts have built huge audiences by reporting factual data that major media decides not to disclose. Attempts by liberal hosts have fizzled — because they simply expanded on wrinkles from major media. So a group of advocates is calling for “talk radio” to give equal time for the liberal views audiences have rejected. No mention of requiring “fairness” from CBS, ABC, PBS, et al.
Card Check — This is a blatant move to deprive those who do not choose to join a union the right to make this choice by secret ballot. Surely, no one thinks those who reject a union would be met by a persuasive committee!
Ah, the mystery of words!
