LETTER: Darlington County Humane Society needs help

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

To meet payroll at the shelter this Friday, the Darlington County Humane Society Board has had to borrow money ($440). In two weeks another payroll is due ($3200). There is no money at all for that.
The next check from the county ($10,000) comes in October. It will go toward $22,400 in payroll expenses for that quarter. As you can see, that will leave a shortfall of $12,400. In the past, the county stipend has been supplemented by donations and fundraising. Probably due to the economy, people are not donating as much, and a rise in minimum wage is increasing the payroll.

The total payroll for last year was about $80,000. If that amount is divided among seven workers, it is easy to see that our workers gross about $11,000 per year. They are not overpaid.
If anyone can help us, with any amount, PLEASE do. Every penny would be appreciated. Please don’t say you can’t give because the amount is too little. Every bit would help and we would be thankful.
You can mail a check to Darlington County Humane Society, PO Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551; bring a donation by the shelter west of Darlington, just off Harry Byrd Hwy (Hwy 151) at the big blue water tower on Animal Control Boulevard; call 398-4402 or 332-7209 to get someone to pick up a donation (please leave a message at either place as these are not office numbers); e-mail and I will arrange to have your donation picked up.
Thank you for your support.
