LETTER TO THE EDITOR: ‘Faith, Values’ section misses with some stories
On Saturday you have a page called Faith & Values; I think I know what faith and values are, but apparently you and I don’t see it the same way.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bike rallies should continue
I feel bike rallies must stay. They bring millions of dollars to South Carolina. By stopping this our city and state taxes will go up.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ending bike week could help tourism
I feel Myrtle Beach will gain much more by ending bike weeks and concentrating on giving tourists more things to do and see when visiting the beach.

The recent mayoral election in Florence serves as a poignant reminder that every vote matters.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Time to make a change for alternative way of life
Our addiction to petroleum is well-known. Now other parts of the world are becoming as addicted as the West, and we are seeing spikes in prices as global demand increases.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Legislating school quality is a dangerous step to take
While improving education may be a feel-good phrase, when we tamper with the language of the Constitution, we are inviting danger.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Don’t make excuses for committing crimes
I sat and cried after reading the story in the Morning News (S.C. man gets three years in prison for punching death).
Mrs. Kennedy, my heart goes out to you.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Graduation ceremony didn’t honor God, country
On June 7, I drove to Florence as an invited guest of a graduating student of the West Florence High School, a major day of celebration and personal achievement for my young friend and his family.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Don’t throw away your ‘old’ phone book
When the new BellSouth, “The Real Yellow Pages,” phone book came last week, we realized we weren’t in the 2008 book.
I called to find out why?

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Important provisions in climate security act
Last week, the U.S. Senate stalled debate on the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act, the most serious clean energy bill ever taken up by the full Senate. The bill was intended to be an outline for our country to begin cutting the pollution that is a result of our dependence on oil and provide America with the opportunity to transition to a clean-energy economy.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Examine the risks of new ‘Shampoo Bill’
After being ridiculed in papers across South Carolina, I felt a need to explain the position of our industry on the recent passing of the “Shampoo Bill.”

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Be careful calling candidates ‘elite’
Thom Anderson made his case for whom he considers as “elite.” First, let’s define the word “elite.” Taking out some of the descriptive words to illustrate the word, the following is the definition from Merriam-Webster’s on-line dictionary. “The choice part: the best of a class: the socially superior part of society: a group of persons who by virtue of position or education exercise much power or influence: a member of such an elite.”

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote for Witherspoon to replace Sen. Graham
As a conservative Republican, I do not have much reason to go vote on Tuesday except for the county positions that are at stake.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote for Powers for Florence City Council
The citizens of Florence will have an important opportunity on June 10.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Let’s get rid of all incumbents in Congress
Our country is quickly falling apart because of we Americans allowing this demise to occur. We are our own worst enemies. The blame game has now become a watchword of all of us because it appears that the insurance industry, the medical industry, the oil companies and others are the culprits raping this country.
We can do something.

Over two decades I have known candidate Levone Graves and have found him to be trustworthy and loyal to his cause, which is to improve District 30 educational and economic interests.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Rick Woodard responds to neighborhood’s needs
A responsible City Council is one that will respond to the needs and request of its city residents and we currently have that in many of our elected officials. We moved to the Forest Hills area residing on Park Avenue about three years ago. We began to experience an enormous amount of traffic in the neighborhood, some at what seemed to be approaching twice the posted 30-mph speed limitations.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Time for rethinking and change by voters
America knows full well that change is long overdue. Finally, change is coming or “Help is on the way.” There is a growing awareness that voters must look beyond the individual politicians and scrutinize his or her agenda-their party’s agenda.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Elect Witherspoon to U.S. Senate to get ball rolling
For the last several weeks, I have been listening to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s radio/television spots. He probably really believes all the things he says in those spots. But I know better. Last year he was booed here in South Carolina when he called us all racist bigots for not wanting him, John McCain and Ted Kennedy to grant illegal aliens amnesty.

Regarding the editorial dated June 4, 2008, endorsing Charles Woodle as the best candidate for sheriff of Darlington County — obviously, you do not live in Lamar, as I do, or you would not have written this editorial.

In this election cycle we have been inundated with the catchphrase “change.”
