EDITORIAL: Democrats should stay focused

A number of political leaders nation wide have said the now infamous Joe Wilson incident was racially motivated.
Former President Jimmy Carter brought the issue of race to the forefront of the discussion in recent weeks, saying that anyone who disagrees with Obama does so largely because of his race.
Locally, Williamsburg County’s state representative Kenneth Kennedy released a statement to local media saying he was “appalled” by Wilson’s conduct.
“I was not surprised Joe Wilson did what he did,” Kennedy told The Weekly Observer in a recent telephone interview. Having served with Wilson in the South Carolina legislature, Kennedy said even though things have changed over the years, some people still have a difficult time accepting the progress made when it comes to matters of race.
“Joe Wilson is the epitome of that,” he said. “It had to have been someone from South Carolina, Georgia or Mississippi that would do anything like that.”
“I know the rhetoric,” he continued. “The vile that they spill out… I know it when I hear it.”
When asked if recent protests against the president on healthcare and other matters were also racially motivated, the representative stood firm.
“They are,” he said. “All of them.”
While matters of racism should never be taken lightly, saying Joe Wilson’s outburst had racial overtones is a tough sell, especially since the accusation regarding illegal immigrants and healthcare has since been found to have some merit.
Whether Wilson’s comments were factually correct or not, nearly everyone is in agreement—including Wilson himself— that the outburst was out of line. However, saying race was the congressman’s motivation is taking it too far. Standing on decorum is one thing, but setting the precedent that anyone who opposes the president is a bigot is something else entirely.
The problem lies in Obama’s ideas and policies and not the color of his skin. An attempt to place a chilling effect on debate against the president is extremely dangerous to the fabric of our democracy.

There should be emphasis on E-Verify being adopted by every business in America, mandatory or not? Now that it’s locked into the US workers psyche, it should be evident to the pro-illegal immigrant groups that—THE PEOPLE—are not letting go of this computer illegal immigrant enforcement application without a fight. This quasi agency was the machine involved with the inception of NAFTA. Coincidentally, I recall that President Obama and his administration addressed the general public that he would renegotiate the treaties of NAFTA and CAFTA? So far this has not materialized, nor has his promise to implement an open transparent government? He is following the same illusory lines as the Bush presidency, other than National security—remaining secretive?

It could additionally have multiple future uses, including detecting illegal aliens applying for driver’s licenses. It could also be adapted to apprehend any foreign nationals who apply in any health care reform or any other government benefit. By overturning the 1986 Immigration legislation and enacting a new AMNESTY the American population lose culturally and financially. Another possibility is checking the status of individuals admitted to higher education or schools. Its availability is a free service on the web, by accessing both Homeland Security and the Social Security databases. On an ongoing basis it is seemingly the principle tool to detour anybody who is stealing jobs from the legal population.
It almost succumbed to Democratic leadership, because both Sen Reid and Pelosi had an ulterior motive to kill E-Verify and other immigration enforcement weapons.
