News 13 continues it’s watch on the struggling economy. We checked-in with one local restaurant to see how they are handling the down economy.
For more than 40 years, The Sea Captain’s House served meals to locals and tourists on the oceanfront. Even with the down economy, The Sea Captains said sales are up nearly 10 percent from last year.
Scott LaCrosse is General Manager of The Sea Captains. “With the management style, they try to absorb and make everything fair, no gouging that way. Things go up every year, but yet their pricing stays.“
LaCrosse credits their success to years of word of mouth and returning customers. “They go out of their way to show up and some of them multi-meal periods,” said LaCrosse. “I see them everyday for breakfast or breakfast, lunch and dinner for their whole stay. It makes it easy to run a business when you have that customer base.“
LaCrosse hears some other restaurants aren’t doing as well. And they know they have to stay on their toes when disposable income is less than it has been for years.
“We’re not riding on our laurels, we know that it’s a sensitive time, so we’re paying attention to the numbers and all.“
LaCrosse said his restaurant is concentrating on its current customers by offering promotions, he says they are giving back to the customers that keep their business up and running.
