SCEDS is a partnership of the South Carolina Department of Commerce, the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association, and the Tate Center for Entrepreneurship at the College of Charleston.
The purpose of SCEDS is to educate those who support the economic development professionals in their communities. These supporters come from a wide variety of organizations including city and county councils, county development boards, school boards, utility companies, local/state government, banks and others. Practitioners and academicians make up the faculty.
According to a press release, the program focuses on the knowledge and tools that will help South Carolina compete in today’s economic development environment.
Graduates of the SCEDS program attend four two-day sessions, focusing on community and economic development topics including: traditional versus non-traditional development, leadership, strategic planning, marketing, workforce and infrastructure development, existing industry, sites and buildings and international trade.
