Florence School District 4 and the Timmonsville Area Ministerial Alliance is inviting the community to come out to their annual Community Back-to-School Revival.

The three-day revival, which begins 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and ends Friday, will be at Deliverance Tabernacle Church, 701 Cale Yarborough Road, Timmonsville.

The back-to-school bash will feature guest speakers and musical selections from local choirs.

On Wednesday, evangelist Tracey Williamson of Kings of Kings Ministry in Timmonsville will speak. Pastors Cynthia Hickman of Glorious Apostolic Church and Claudia Askins of Jireh Holiness Church will speak on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

School supplies will be given away every night to those who attend the event, Gloria Bracey, Florence 4’s family and community coordinator, said.

Bracey, who is the president of the ministerial alliance, said the group tries to do something for the community each year and the revival is a way to “revive (its) spirits.”

Bracey said representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau also will be present at the event.

Florence 4 Superintendent Dr. Bertha McCants said the revival allows school administrators an opportunity to talk with parents about the district.

“It’s a spiritual (event), but it’s also (an opportunity) to give out information,” McCants said. “So that the school officials will have an opportunity to talk with parents about school expectations or any procedure that will occur for the opening of the school year.”

This week, Florence 4 is also welcoming back its employees.

On Tuesday, the district had a new employee orientation and teacher induction program.

For the next three days, all district employees will participate in staff development sessions.

The district will end the week with a back-to-school convocation. Guest speaker will be Dennis Burke, a local author and owner of Krukr Specialty Store in Darlington. Burke also is an adjunct professor at Florence-Darlington Technical College.

McCants said she is looking forward to many more successes this school year and that the district will continue its goal of utilizing a systematic approach to become the fastest-improving school district in South Carolina.
