The S.C. Department of Transportation has scheduled a public information meeting Thursday in Darlington County concerning the proposed bridge replacement on West Smith Avenue over Swift Creek. The bridge replacement is proposed to upgrade the existing structure that is showing signs of aging and structural inadequacy.

The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m., in the common area of Pate Elementary School, 1010 Indian Branch Road, Darlington. The meeting will have a drop-in format, with displays for viewing. A formal presentation won’t be made, however.

The meeting is to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents concerning the proposed bridge replacement, a quarter mile north of the intersection with Harry Byrd Highway (S.C. 34/151). SCDOT officials will gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area and will be available to answer questions.

For more information, call SCDOT Assistant Program Manager Kenneth Johnson at (803) 737-1489. Those with disabilities who may require special accommodations should call Karen Davis at (803) 737-1549.
