A Salters man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he shot a man he owed money, according to a Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Matthew Fredrick Amos, 35, of 544 Old Gapway Road is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon on Flank Avenue in Salters when the victim saw a man who owed him money. The victim asked for the money, but instead of paying him, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at least five shots, hitting him twice, according to the report.

The victim’s mother took him to a local hospital for treatment.

Amos remains in custody at the Williamsburg County jail in Kingstree.
