Robinson Plant to test sirens at full volume today
In cooperation with Chesterfield, Darlington, and Lee counties, Progress Energy will test the alert notification sirens in the 10-mile area around Progress Energy’s H.B. Robinson Nuclear Plant between 2 and 5 p.m. today.
During the short duration test the sirens will sound at full volume for approximately 15 seconds, at least one time during the test, but they may sound more than one time. Progress Energy conducts the short duration test every three months.
In the unlikely event of an emergency at the Robinson Plant, the sirens would alert the public to tune in to local radio and television stations for information and instructions. The sounding of the sirens does not mean the public should evacuate, but is intended to notify the public to tune to local radio and television stations for Emergency Alert System information and instructions. The system will not be activated during these siren tests.
The Robinson Nuclear Plant produces approximately 710 megawatts of electricity and is located about five miles from Hartsville.
