COLUMBIA - The largest jackpot in the history of the MegaMatch 6SM game was claimed on Monday. Samuel Wright, of Lynchburg, held the winning ticket worth $1,790,631.
On Tuesday, July 28, Wright was watching the Lottery’s televised MegaMatch 6SM drawing and writing down the results. On the same line, he matched all six numbers drawn to win the historic jackpot.
“It is a great feeling,” he told staff at the Columbia Claims Center.
Wright and his wife recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. When asked if the couple plans to celebrate tonight, they both shook their heads “no.” Instead, both are looking forward to resuming their normal routine.
“This is a miracle,” his wife said. “This is really a miracle.”
Short Trip #6 in Lamar sold the jackpot winning ticket. Now that the ticket has been claimed, the retailer will receive a 1 percent selling bonus.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2.2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2010. Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
