Williamsburg County residents are invited to attend a public forum Thursday night to talk about a proposed landfill.
That landfill is proposed to go up near the small community of Nesmith.
Many residents there, though, say they don’t want such a development in their neck of the woods.
That’s because they fear it could affect their way of life.
“We think it’s going to ruin our community and our environment. It’s going to really destroy the value of our property. We just think that, you know, we need to back up and look at this thing,” said Tommy Stuckey, a local resident.
The meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Nesmith Baptist Church.

Reader Reactions
Nesmith residents, don’t let MRR officials lie to you. They will wine and dine your officials and FORCE it on you. They will mislead you in every way possible as they have done Marlboro County. Find out where your Senators and representatives stand. They have MADE the landfill laws and they COULD change them if they wanted to. THEY WON’T.
They’ve got to build one somewhere, they really can’t do it in downtown Florence so they head out to the rural areas.
